In one week I head back to Japan 🇯🇵. I’ll be studying my heritage in Tokyo, (where mom went to college + was a school teacher), I’ll be in Sado Island, hiking the pilgrimage trails of ancient monks, I’ll be in Niigata learning of artisanal practices with food and fermentation & the Noto Peninsula exploring untouched Japan. Soon, it will just be me and my📸camera.
So many of you ask me, how do you get to success? The best way I can answer that, is to tell your unique story, be honest, be open and be real. Copycats are nice, but if you want to “make it” you go from deep inside, you stay original. Nobody else can write my heritage book, nobody else can tell your deepest, darkest most jarring stories. If you want to live a grand life filled with adventure, love, light and inspiration, go off the basic b path. Go do something remarkable that’s unique to you! Only you know what that is, so go deep inside and find that place of joy, pain, sadness, struggle and success.
For me, my Japan, embracing my struggles, being honest, sharing my pain, my progress and my heart has been part of my story. I was always afraid to share that side with you, my prior books to me, are very surface level. This was a year where I realized it’s time for me to go really, really deep. After the worst year of my life, I couldn’t possibly not share what I had learned. The tremendous amount of growth bestowed upon me was so obvi, it was my story. And it was my story I had to share with you. Is still being written….
I’d never want to live my life any other way. I have zero regrets. (Okay, maybe like three, I might have like 3…) I may be alone quite a bit when I write, travel, shoot, explore, but that’s how I get to know myself and improve my work. You, each of you are always with me in my 💘heart. Xxx ck
