February = Heart Health!

February is Heart Health Month. Heart disease is a leading cause of death amongst both men and women in the US, but there are simple changes you can make to your life to help combat this deadly disease. While the foods you choose to eat are always important, don’t forget about a little thing called exercise. Get out there and get that beautiful heart pumping! xx ck

Recommended Foods to Eat:

Avocado: Full of good, mono-unsaturated fat that you want, as it helps to lower cholesterol and also has shown to have an inflammatory effect.

Berries: Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries are all packed with antioxidants!

Greens: Kale, broccoli rabe, arugula, mizuna, romaine

Lentils: Hearty, filling and full of soluble fiber +protein

Salmon: The best fish ever, with lots of healthy protein, B-12 and mono-unsaturated fats! Plus, see below for a fantastic, healthy heart recipe.

Oatmeal: Cholesterol-lowering

Walnuts: Perfect for a snack on the go. Raw is best!

Remember to: Limit your sodium intake and reduce unhealthy fats – like saturated and trans-fats.

Recommended Exercise: Start incorporating more activities that make you feel good. Running, swimming, gardening, bar method, yoga (my faves!) and dancing are all great for cardio. Get out there with a friend and go bowling, take a hike, walk the art gallery, museum, or even the mall for a few hours each weekend…baby steps! Even taking the dog for a longer walk each day can make a BIG difference!

Also important: Stress management! Keep your mind and emotions healthy too with daily meditation, quiet time, or even just a good book at the end of the day instead of scrolling through your phone!
